Columbus schools are once again considering either students should be required to wear uniforms to school. This, in my opinion, would be a mistake. Here are my thoughts on why Columbus schools should abandon the idea that uniforms for students are a good idea.
Uniforms an Unnecessary Cost for Students at Columbus Schools
Nursing Schools In Columbus Ohio
It's one thing for administrators at Columbus schools to rule that having everyone who goes to school to look the same. The thought is that for the students, attending Columbus schools is their job and they need to dress accordingly.
The question with that line of reasoning is that going to school, while important, is not a job. Why do some population have the idea that the way to make children behave great is to treat them like slight adults? Our children don't have the time to enjoy being kids anymore; there are too many adult messages being given to them from television, the Internet, video games, and movies.
Going to school should be about studying new things and having some fun along the way. The students attending Columbus schools will have adequate time to dress in a certain manner when they desist their study and start working. They should have some choices about what type of clothing they want to wear to school when they are young.
The other thing that isn't thought about when development statements indicating that students at Columbus schools should be wearing uniforms is who is going to pay for them? Implementing a school uniform procedure means that all students need to buy school clothes from the same place and pay the same number of money. This is fine for families that can afford it, but what happens when parents aren't able to afford the uniform? There are no lower-cost alternatives in that case.
Will Columbus schools furnish subsidies to cover the cost of the uniforms? How will that agenda be administered? Will the families that need aid get it in time to be able to buy the uniforms before the first day of classes?
Columbus Schools Should enforce Dress Code
Instead of talking about buying uniforms, Columbus schools should adopt a dress code that is clear and easy to understand. As the procedure is written now, it bans clothing that is "too tight, baggy or provocative." All of these terms are field to interpretation, unfortunately.
The sad thing is that students going to Columbus schools (and their parents) need to be told how to dress appropriately for school. This is basic facts that everyone should know already. The clarification to the question of students not dressing appropriately for school is not going to be solved by development everyone wear uniforms at Columbus schools.
